Binding energies of trions and biexcitons in two-dimensional semiconductors from diffusion quantum Monte Carlo calculations
نویسنده
چکیده
Excitonic effects play a particularly important role in the optoelectronic behavior of twodimensional (2D) semiconductors. To facilitate the interpretation of experimental photoabsorption and photoluminescence spectra we provide statistically exact diffusion quantum Monte Carlo binding-energy data for Mott-Wannier models of excitons, trions, and biexcitons in 2D semiconductors. We also provide contact pair densities to allow a description of contact (exchange) interactions between charge carriers using first-order perturbation theory. Our data indicate that the binding energy of a trion is generally larger than that of a biexciton in 2D semiconductors. We provide interpolation formulas giving the binding energy and contact density of 2D semiconductors as functions of the electron and hole effective masses and the in-plane polarizability.

Diffusion quantum Monte Carlo study of excitonic complexes in two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides
Excitonic effects play a particularly important role in the optoelectronic behavior of twodimensional semiconductors. To facilitate the interpretation of experimental photoabsorption and photoluminescence spectra we provide (i) statistically exact diffusion quantum Monte Carlo bindingenergy data for a Mott-Wannier model of (donor/acceptor-bound) excitons, trions, and biexcitons in two-dimension...
متن کاملNeutral and charged inter-valley biexcitons in monolayer MoSe2
In atomically thin transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs), reduced dielectric screening of the Coulomb interaction leads to strongly correlated many-body states, including excitons and trions, that dominate the optical properties. Higher-order states, such as bound biexcitons, are possible but are difficult to identify unambiguously using linear optical spectroscopy methods. Here, we implement...
متن کاملExciton-exciton interaction and biexciton formation in bilayer systems
We report quantum Monte Carlo calculations of biexciton binding energies in ideal two-dimensional bilayer systems with isotropic electron and hole masses. We have also calculated exciton-exciton interaction potentials and pair-distribution functions for electrons and holes in bound biexcitons. Comparing our data with results obtained in a recent study using a model exciton-exciton potential Sch...
متن کاملDiamagnetic response of exciton complexes in semiconductor quantum dots.
We report measurements of diamagnetic shifts for different exciton complexes confined in small InAs quantum dots. The measured diamagnetic responses are sensitive to the number of carriers in the exciton complexes, with systematic differences between neutral excitons, biexcitons, and trions. Theoretical calculations suggest that such systematic differences arise from very different extents of e...
متن کاملEffects of Backflow Correlation in the Three-Dimensional Electron Gas: Quantum Monte Carlo Study
The correlation energy of the homogeneous three-dimensional interacting electron gas is calculated using the variational and fixed-node diffusion Monte Carlo methods, with trial functions that include backflow and three-body correlations. In the high density regime (rs ≤ 5) the effects of backflow dominate over those due to three-body correlations, but the relative importance of the latter incr...
